The DIP
The Direct Institutional Plan (DIP) is simple: inform everyone involved in the democratic process about the extinction risk posed by AI, and the solutions to it. This training programme teaches you how to deliver one of its core components: briefing lawmakers.

1–1.5hours, self-paced
No prior advocacy experience is needed. The online material is self-paced, but expect to spend around 1-1.5 hours working through the core online material. A wealth of additional resources are also included if you want to dive deeper and further build your confidence in making these arguments.
When you're ready there are opportunities to practise with experienced advocates before your first real meeting with a lawmaker.
Why brief lawmakers?
AI companies are racing to build superintelligence, yet have no idea how to control it. Many of the world's leading AI scientists believe this poses an extinction risk to humanity.
Politicians need to understand this, and most of them have never had anyone explain it to them in ways they can understand.
Giving lawmakers honest and understandable briefings works: over 170 cross-party UK parliamentarians and over 30 Canadian lawmakers have already publicly supported action after campaigns built on exactly this approach.
It has also contributed to bills being introduced in the UK and US to ban the development of superintelligence.
We urgently need to scale this plan to ensure a ban on the development of superintelligence is implemented... and that's where you come in. Complete the training programme and help keep humanity in control!
A collaboration
This training programme is a collaboration between Torchbearer Community and ControlAI, who developed the Direct Institutional Plan that this course teaches. Torchbearer Community developed the course and run the practice sessions. The course is run on ControlAI's take-action platform.
